A new hybrid heatset/coldset manroland Uniset for joint venture the Xin’an Media Corporation will be the first in China capable of production at 80,000 cph. Founded in September 2008, the company is a venture of the Anhui Daily Newspaper Group and the South African MIH Print Media Group. The pressline will be commissioned early next year at a new plant in Hefei. Anhui Daily was among the ‘top ten’ of China’s innovative media groups in 2007, and publishes ten newspapers and three periodicals, of which the ‘Xin’an Evening News’ is the largest and financially most successful print medium in Anhui province in South East China. The group has its headquarters in Hefei, with printing plants in Huangshan and Fuyang, where the ‘People’s Daily’ and 20 other newspapers are produced. They have been awarded ‘high-quality class newspaper’ in three consecutive years. MIH Print Media Group is one of Africa’s most influential, and the world’s fifth-largest media group. It owns print and electronic media and various subsidiaries, and is active in more than 50 countries. The new press will print 24-page broadsheets or 48-page tabloids at 80,000 cph or 48-page broadsheets (or 96-page tabloids) at lower speed. A quarterfold will provide for A4 journals and magazines as well as commercial products. It will have three reel splicers, three printing towers, one dryer, and two folders, one of which is equipped with a 16-page device.
