Days before Graph Expo (October 7-10) opens in Chicago’s McCormick Place, NewsWeb’s TKS inkjet web is in place and the contract signed.

The installation, which is close to the show venue, provides an opportunity for visitors to see the new digital press technology, which the midwest printer will use for existing products and to develop new markets

The JetLeader 1500 is the one which ran at DRUPA in Düsseldorf in May, and will be the first of its kind in North America. It has 4/4 printing units for process colour, using piezo electric drop on demand printheads capable of resolution up to 600x600 dpi. Maximum printing speed is quoted at 150 metres/minute.

An online newspaper folder will handle up to 72 pages in up to five sections.

Rodd Winscott, president of Newsweb’s printing division, says the company is working to understand the market to determine the best jobs to put on the new press. “We’re also preparing for the new work we can and will be bringing in,” he says.

TKS president Yoshikazu Shibasays the JetLeader is a leader in its field, being the first digital inkjet system that produces sectionalised newspapers inline.

“TKS has always been a technology leader and, looking into the future, vies for the JetLeader to be in the forefront of innovation in this area of technology.”

TKS’s Nobuyuki Nakajima welcomed NewsWeb: “It is always very special to me when we bring a new customer into our TKS family. We look forward to working with Newsweb in introducing this new technology to the world and having the opportunity to bring in customers during the upcoming Graph Expo show.”
