Asian print managers were shown manroland’s latest web technology at an open house event at Toppan Leefung in Shenzen.

And the Chinese company – which prints premium fashion magazines including Vogue China – celebrated by ordering a further Rotoman HiPrint press.

Managing directors and managers of around 20 leading webfed printing companies mostly in Korea and China attended the Shenzhen event, supported by manroland web and papermaker UPM.

They saw signatures of fashion magazine Marie Claire – a high-gloss product with high-quality photos and advertisements – produced on the existing HiPrint. Luxury goods are popular in the Chinese market, as are Elle, Vogue, Ray, HIM, Bazaar, Marie Claire, Esquire and Madame Figaro, all of which are produced by Toppan Leefung along with business publications.
“Advertising customers in China, whether from the fashion, lifestyle or vehicle sector, have international and thus high demands on printing service providers,” manroland sales vice president Frank Tietsche says.

“This means we have to implement innovative technical solutions in China to ensure performance and quality.”

Toppan Leefung Printing has ordered a second Rotoman HiPrint, to be delivered to its Shanghai location later this year.

The Shenzhen press, installed in late 2010, is a single-web 16-page web producing up to 55,000 cph, and has PPL automated plate changing.

Toppan Leefung, headquartered in Hong Kong, is a member of Japanese printing conglomerate Toppan Printing, and has operated in Shenzhen since 1992. Production sites have also been established in Dongguan, Shanghai and Peking, making it one of the largest printing companies on the Chinese mainland.
