Having established a place in your lifestyle, Twitter is turning storefront with a new feature to buy product.

Brands and singers are among the first in a trial of the system which began in the US today.

Twitter says Tweets from partners going to a small (but growing) percentage of US users will include a ‘buy’ button to effect a direct sale.

The company says this is “an early step” in building functionality to make shopping from mobile devices convenient and easy, “hopefully even fun”. It promises “access to offers and merchandise they can’t get anywhere else” and works within apps for Android and iOS.

Twitter’s partners include Fancy, Gumroad, Musictoday and Stripe as platforms for the initial test with “more to follow soon”.

Twitter says payment and shipping information is encrypted and “safely stored” after the first transaction, ready for further use.

Artists, brands, and nonprofit organisations include Brad Paisley, Burberry, Eminem, The Home Depot, Keith Urban and The New Pornographers. Looks like interesting company.
