International experts will share their thoughts and experience on wearables at a workshop ahead of next week's World News Media Congress.

The Sunday Wearables Workshop is being held by WAN-Ifra's Global Alliance for Media Innovation in partnership with CCI and its Stibo Accelerator initiative.

Registration for the event on May 31 has been extended to allow more participants and welcome extra speakers and mentors.

The programme for the Washington workshop will include:

- Media and design expert Dr. Mario Garcia who will open the workshop with a talk that frames the 'wearable revolution' and who will moderate the idea-generation exercises;

- Berlingske Media Head of Lab Anders Kring, sharing findings from the company's five-month research project on smart watches and news;

- Deniz Ergürel, technology journalist and R&D director for Turkish media group Zaman, will present examples of current and future possibilities the Apple Watch holds for news;

- Tamás Szépvölgyi (pictured), chief executive of Sanoma mobile development centre, will overview smart watch news apps and discuss approaches different publishers have taken;

- From PURCS in Brazil, Professor Eduardo Pellanda - who has taught at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Mobile Experience Lab - will introduce workshop participants to the research on wearables.

The workshop will include roundtable discussions, group exercises, case studies and hands-on experience from both the consumer side of receiving news as writing for smart watches.

Registration is open to delegates of the World News Media Congress events, at which more than 1000 are expected. Details at http://www.wan-ifra.org/dc2015
