➤ DRUPA brought new flexibility and a smart new livery to Müller Martini's ProLiner newspaper inserting system, shown for the first time with a new CoLiner pre-gathering system.
Not only does the system look good in its Laserblue ‘outfit’, but its ergonomic design offers even more flexibility.
Since its launch in 2007, more than 20 ProLiner inserting systems have been installed, with users impressed by its modular construction and open system architecture. Irrespective of whether it is configured as a basic model with a small number of feeders, or a complex high-performance inserting system, the ProLiner can be adapted flexibly and quickly to new production requirements and increased numbers of supplements.
The CoLiner pregathering system improves flexibility, with the option to connect one or two systems at different angles and to either or both sides of the ProLiner. This makes layout of the whole inserting system very flexible and compact and allows the operators fast access to all the components.
Another advantage for the operator is that the ProLiner and the CoLiner pregathering system are constructed linearly and can be operated from both sides. This gives them the best overview and allows the supplement pallets to be positioned wherever is most convenient. It also makes maintenance easier, as both machines are equipped with the same feeder technology. Stream feeders convey the products to the feeders, make manual loading easier and improve the performance of the whole inserting system.
Like that of the ProLiner, the design of the new pregathering system is modular, and it can be expanded with up to ten insert stations. All the pregathered inserts are stacked into ProLiner pockets. And because of its flexible layout options, the pregathering system can be integrated retrospectively into an existing ProLiner line, even if space is limited.
The inserting system was developed in close collaboration with users and sets high standards for functionality, ergonomics and environmental protection. An important feature is the new corporate design, which offers operators optimum ergonomics, with the best possible overview and access.
Special attention has been paid to the control panels as they represent an important ‘human-machine’ interface. They are centred around a uniform menu navigation concept that has been implemented consistently on all the machine components. The intuitive user guidance system is easy to learn and easy to use. All the relevant production data are clearly displayed on the main screen. The advantage of this is that the operator can enter production settings and make adjustments quickly and easily.
Environmental protection has been taken into account throughout: The ProLiner meets the highest noise emission standards. And thanks to cutting edge control and drive technology, energy and compressed air consumption have also been further reduced. From a technical point of view, the modular and linear ProLiner system has always met the highest demands. Secure insert pickup, simple feeder technology and faultless inserting thanks to four-gripper pockets guarantee extremely reliable production.
In developing the ProLiner, Müller Martini has used the most up-to-date materials, some of which also find application in the aviation industry and Formula 1 racing. They are bywords for stability and longevity, and ensure low noise emission.
New ProLiner pockets for example, are manufactured from high-quality reinforced plastics: They last longer because the composite materials allow for innovative design, unlike pockets made out of conventional materials such as sheet metal or steel. The strength of the material can be adjusted to best suit the load.
The ProLiner inserting system and the new pre-gathering system provide the highest flexibility and productivity, ensuring an attractive, highly-competitive newspaper.
