The paper’s chief executive, Bill Holiber says the aim was to address the needs of our readers who loved the experience of the print edition, combining the flexibility of a live app with the feel of the printed newspaper.
The app was developed with UK specialist PageSuite, which is to open a US office in expansion to meet the needs of more than 1000 clients worldwide.
Holiber says it provides “the most timely, accessible and user-friendly vehicle” for sharing what it says is “the voice of the most connected city in the world”.
iPad users can swipe through the pages, tap for zoom and use the search function to find specific stories, and share favourite articles, photo galleries and video with friends on Facebook, Twitter or through email.
PageSuite chief executive Nathan Parrett says working closely with the Daily News development team extended their capabilities. “We are particularly pleased with how the app not only features beautifully presented live news, video, and photo galleries, but also highlights print edition abilities,” he says. “The result is interactive, engaging and delivers value content that can be accessed on or offline.”
