US printing giant RR Donnelley has been granted a patent for the technology behind its ActiveDisclosure disclosure management software.

The system works with Microsoft Office on business reporting applications, confirming the accuracy of XBRL tags.

The company says it has been granted a US patent for its ‘system and method for rendering data’ which expands on a previous patent and relates to a method of parsing and viewing information associated with business and/or financial data.

It extends a portfolio of patents obtained when Donnelley acquired EDGAR Online, and protects methods used in RRD ActiveDisclosures.

Craig Clay, executive vice president of RR Donnelley's financial services group, says the award-winning disclosure management software allows its customers to speed up the process of tagging, reducing the effort needed to meet the SEC's mandate for interactive data, and freeing them to focus on other business critical activities.
