WAN-Ifra’s World Publishing Expo opens in Amsterdam on Monday (October 13-15) with about 8000 visitors expected.
Exhibitors cover all sectors of the industry and reflect the changes going on from print to digital to mobile.
Backgrounding the show stands are Media Port presentation by 42 speakers on open stages in each of the three expo hall. Topics cover content, revenue and the power of print.

At Atex, the focus is on tablet and mobile publishing with the combination of Atex and Applix technology in an integrated application. With Viewerplus, the Applix digital publishing suite and Atex Content, the company will show a complete solution for both print and multimedia enhanced tablet editions.
Applix brings expertise in mobile and apps to the partnership, having already helped global publishers enhance their presence on smartphones and tablets.
Show seminars cover audience targeting and retention (morning) and continuous content curation (afternoon).
A ‘quiet achiever’ increasing expertise and the scale of its offering with each IfraExpo is Peter Resele’s Comyan.
Among novelties on their stand in a newspaper you can talk to: A third-generation e-paper app which includes auto-navigation to enable readers to listen to the newspaper in their car or at the gym. The company claims the first HTML e-paper for all devices and mobile platforms.
EidosMedia will focus on the latest release of the Méthode multichannel suite. Features include Swing – a new app which enables journalists and editors to work anywhere – and new integrated social media resources which facilitate searching sources and filtering relevant content.
New mobile publishing features add a range of possibilities from page readers to responsive publications. Méthode’s video workflow brings video editors into the heart of the newsroom workflow through integration with Adobe Premiereand video hosting services such as Brightcove and Ooyala.
Mediaspectrum is sharing space in Amsterdam with strategic partner Arvato Systems. The company promises “a glimpse” of new platform developments including a CRM product which incorporates loyalty marketing and mobile sales enablement, and expanded inventory management functionality.
Among members of the team at the show is Asia Pacific regional managing director David Page.
Miles 33 claims to have some editorial ‘firsts’ and the debut of new advertising software to spruik in Amsterdam, plus a new sales module to set targets and track performance, deep integration with Google DFP and integration of audience tools from Cxense.
Through its integration with Google DFP, the new generation Gemstone ad sales system, will automatically pull ad units, placements, targetting keys and digital templates from the ad server, the company says. Sales staff can then use Gemstone to enter campaign details, capture creative materials and apply template variables, with Gemstone then delivering campaign and ad materials to the server.
Development and business systems director John Skarin says the combined effect of the new features will demonstrate how dramatically the function of selling advertising has changed in current multichannel environments.
It’s been a big year for NewsCycle Solutions – formed from the merger of Saxotech and DTI, and the addition of Atex Advertising and Mediaspan. At the World Publishing Expo, the company launches a new version of its Advertising product, with a new mobile application and improved workflow tools. The OneView browser client has revamped CRM, dashboard views, search options and inventory forecasting, while the self-service portal has enhanced ad building and order booking features.
New features for the OneView Mobile tablet application include real-time print inventory checks, special pricing support and manuscript text for the Newscycle MediaLink ad production and tracking module.
Regional news from Newscycle is the appointment of Sydney-based business manager Bryan Hooley, formerly of London’s Telegraph Media Group, although unfortunately he will not be in Amsterdam.
News from Roxen is of a plug-in for the company’s web-based editorial portal to link with the QBank digital asset management system. Qbank is a hub for managing media files – everything from photos and illustrations to audio and video – within a newsroom, and will help Roxen users to a more complete solution.
Roxen has more than 70 printed publications, newspapers and websites around the globe among its customers, including Metro International and US-based Shaw Newspapers.
New from WoodWing Software is a cloud-based analytics module for their Enterprise publishing system, designed to present production status information, “any time, anywhere and from any device”. Also new is version 5 of the Elvis DAM digital asset management with which users can manage up to a billion files.
There will also be information about the Digital Services business unit which provides outsourcing and support to enable publishers to tap business opportunities in digital publishing. A new team works with the company’s solution partners
