Plate app (and more) the difference a day made

A mobile app for ppi Media's OM output management system was one of the fruits of a frantic 'ShipIt Day' held by the German software developer.

Ten teams, each of five people, took part in the second such event, where the rule was that whatever was created had to be ready to ship.

Who worked how with whom was not important, and when the 24 hours had expired, teams had four minutes to pitch the products they had created.

"What we got were products that are now ready for a market launch," says managing director Jan Kasten, who had backed the project.

Last year, only ppi employees participated, but this year ShipIt Day was extended to include colleagues from affiliated company comosoft and Evers-Druck.

Of the ten products, the three receiving the loudest applause were an app called 'Thanks' for publishers and local business, a merger of the Content-X publishing system and portlight to create magalogs, and the app to monitor Output Management. This provides users with an overview of plate production to be monitored live on smartphone or wearable.
