New PageWide web presses are among eight new digital presses announced by HP.

New T490 HD, T490M HD and T240 HD models expand the ranging using HDNA (high definition nozzle architecture) technology for which increased print quality and higher productivity is claimed.

General manager and graphic solutions business global head Mike Salfity says the new presses will advance inkjet printing from niche applications to mainstream. The 1067 mm-wide T490 HD duplex press is 67 per cent faster at 304 metres per minute in performance mode (or half that in quality mode) while mono variant, the T490M HD offers book printers equivalent offset-class digital productivity. Additionally, the T470 HD and T480 HD now offer 152 metres per minute in quality mode, a quarter faster than when they were introduced.

Upgrades put the 559 mm wide T240 HD prints at up to 152 metres per minute in performance mode, also a quarter faster, and 76 metres/minute in quality mode; it has a monthly duty cycle of up to 60 million pages.

HP says its PageWide web press customers have produced more than 150 billion letter-equivalent pages since 2009. The new web presses will be commercially available in 2016, and current duplex colour press customers will be able to upgrade.

Five new Indigo presses have also been announced, with quality lifted by new ElectroInks, an expanded media range and improved ink adhesion from a digital primer.
