Canadian publisher Windsor Star & Postmedia is upgrading its KBA Colora press with a control upgrade by Harland Simon.
EAE press controls, upper press drives and motors - as well as the reelstand acceleration and infeed drives - are to be replaced in the project which upgrades frontend controls, which will be replaced with off-the-shelf standard PC/touchscreens and Allen-Bradley Logix PLCs.
On-unit SBCs and SBCEs are being retained to minimize costs. HS Americas director John Staino says the project follows similar KBA upgrades and a 2014 upgrade of the Goss inserters at Windsor in 2014. Harland Simon also completed similar projects at Postmedia's production facilities in Vancouver and Saskatoon.
