Ten years after originally checking it out, a newspaper in America's Washington state has finally signed up for register and closed-loop colour control.
QI Press Controls - who landed the order after "one of the longest sales cycles ever" - has installed the systems on the KBA Comet press at Wenatchee World, 12 years after talks first began.
QIPC-EAE Americas managing director Ronald Reedijk says the investment climate was not at its best then, but the need for register control on the press remained.
The paper's general manager Joe Pitt says "despite there being lots of other similar products on the market, we decided that QIPC was the best solution for us. And anyway, QIPC is the closest match for our KBA Comet."
Eight IDS-3D cameras have been installed on the four-tower Comet with register control, colour control, dampening control and print fault detection. "This allows them to make savings in personnel and ink", says Reedijk. The site prints for commercial clients in addition to the daily newspaper, with quality "especially important" and full automation meaning added value.
