Three drives and a master PLC on a Goss Colorliner at Quad City Times have been replaced in an upgrade project by Harland Simon.
With the print schedule at the Davenport, Iowa, print site becoming increasingly demanding, Lee Enterprise were looking for a reliable upgrade platform.
The project included replacement of three 150HP 1395 drives and one PLC/5 with off-the-shelf Allen Bradley hardware without production being interrupted. Two remaining 1395 drives are still in operation, interfaced to the new drive master, allowing a full press-wide upgrade to be staged.
A suite of diagnostic tools and AB RSLogix 5000 package will ensure performance of the new drives is continually monitored so that any issues can be rapidly resolved.
The project follows drive upgrades including at Daily Sentinel, CO; Burlington Free Press, VT; Windsor Star, ON; Winston Salem, NC and Brunswick News, NB.
