PANPA awards finalists: 'Best ever'

Finalists have been named for this year’s NPA/PANPA Newspaper of the Year awards, due to be presented at a gala dinner in Sydney on August 26.
The Newspaper Publishers’ Association says 53 judges from North and South America, Europe, the UK and Asia – as well as Australia and New Zealand – contributed to judging the awards, which focus on newspapers, websites, photography, marketing and excellence in print and production.
Chief executive Mark Hollands says participation has been outstanding with more than 600 entries were received.
“The standard just gets better,” he says. “Many judges who have taken part in similar industry awards have said this is the highest standard of entry they have seen.
“That says much about the professionalism of our industry.”
There are now 64 awards categories, each of which was considered by between two to five judges.
MC at the presentation dinner – at Doltone House, Jones Bay Wharf, Pyrmont – will be Shelly Horton of Fairfax Media, with entertainment from comedian Jonathan Biggins and dance band PartyVibe. Organisers point out that the ticket price includes five hours of beverages.
