New web sub division makes KBA leaner, closer

Press maker KBA has reoganised its web press technical departments into a single group, promising greater customer proximity with leaner infrastructure. The new total project implementation subdivision headed by Thomas Potzkai will be a central point of contact for customers and subcontractors on planning details and fulfilment of commercial and web press orders. The company says all the technical staff dealing directly with customers (project managers, installation and commissioning personnel, printing instructors) have been assigned to this subdivision to ensure fast, smooth project implementation from order placement to press acceptance, with no awkward competence overlaps. Project-related activities that were previously separate – engineering (mechanical, hardware, software) and assembly of the main components comprising web leads (reelstands, superstructures, substructures), printing units and folders – have been brought together. KBA says this will make the internal technical processes involved in manufacturing new web presses much leaner and faster, and the number of different versions available has been reduced to cut costs. The five other subdivisions are headed by Stefan Hessler (web leads), Bernhard Harant (printing units), Klaus Christmann (folders), Jürgen Weippert (scheduling) and Dr Andreas Göttker (manufacturing). A few months ago Lothar Hohmann was appointed head of security press engineering, also in Würzburg. All subdivisional heads report directly to KBA’s deputy president Claus Bolza-Schünemann. • Pictured flanking Claus Bolza-Schünemann at centre front are (left to right) Lothar Hohmann (security presses), Dr Andreas Göttker (manufacturing), Thomas Potzkai (total project implementation) and Klaus Christmann (folders) with (behind) Bernhard Harant (printing units), Jürgen Weippert (scheduling) and Stefan Hessler (web leads)
