With the ‘go-live’ at the ‘Orange County Register’ in California, DTI says Freedom Communications has become the industry’s largest software-as-a-service circulation deployment.

The flagship title is the twenty-seventh Freedom site commissioned, and brings the number of users there to 1000. A total of 994 users now run circulation via DTI’s Cloud and its Tier4 data centre.

Freedom has been managing  its subscriptions and distribution using DTI software since 2004.

IT business applications director Susan Hicks says the company expects to reduce maintenance costs, eliminate upgrade costs, and reduce hardware expenses.

Ten Freedom Communications databases house 27 daily newspapers as well as a significant number of weekly papers and free titles in DTI Cloud.

DTI sales vice president Dan Paulus says the Freedom circulation cloud initiative is the largest in the industry: “Cloud allows them to work on more strategic issues facing the news media marketplace versus maintaining systems and servers,” he says.

DTI has announced plans to take Cloud to Europe and is expected to bring it to the Asia-pacific – probably via an Australian data centre – shortly.
