Ferrostaal Australia has bounded back into the heatset web press market, taking the Komori agency from CPI, while adding the Fujifilm prepress agency to replace that it held briefly for Kodak. Ferrostaal had been looking for a replacement for the manroland agency which it lost when the German newspaper and commercial web press maker set up its own local subsidiary. It will take on distribution, service and spare parts supply for Komori offset presses in Australia and New Zealand, taki ng over parts inventory, some of the staff, and all outstanding warranty and service obligations. Komori builds a range of four to 32-page heatset web presses – under the System brand – in addition to its broad sheetfed range, Chambon packaging presses and specialist banknote printin g equipment. Australian customers have included Sunshine-based Franklin Web, which built its early business on Komori and Toshiba webs, both brands which are now encompassed by the Komori group. Komori Corporation’s export general manager Aki Komori is pleased to have secured “such an experienced and professional company” as Ferrostaal Australia. “We are confident that with their long experience and professional approach they will continue the excellent work that CPI have done for us in the last 11 years, he says. Ferrostaal Australia managing director Markus Haefeli says securing a premier press distributorship had been a major goal since the change in ownership of the business earlier this year. “Komori presses are recognised as the leading quality offset press in the market and we believe that with our complementary offering of products we can significantly grow the existing Komori market share,” he says. The transfer is still subject to final documentation, but should take effect this month. Fujifilm Australia’s announcement sees Ferrostaal Australia appointed as a distributor for its prepress products. Graphic systems general manager Juergen Krufczyk says this will include plates, consumables and CTP equipment.
