Indonesia’s largest daily newspaper, ‘Kompas’ has scored an Asian multimedia ‘first’ with a dedicated iPad app.
The publisher is using WoodWing´s Digital Magazine Tools to create and publish its digital issues for the iPad, with an app available since the beginning of the month.
‘Kompas’ is believed to be the first asian daily publishing specifically to the iPad.
"At Kompas, we always aim to offer our audience the most compelling reader experience and to provide them with the latest news wherever they are and whatever device they use,” says editor-in-chief Rikard Bagun. “It was a logical step for us to support the iPad.”
The iPad edition is produced by six employees in parallel with print production, with publication targetted at 2 am local time every day.
Founded in 1965, the newspaper reaches more than two million readers a day. Its website www.kompas.com has a total readership of 15 million unique visitors per month and is one of the largest news portals in Indonesia.
Kompas has been the first to introduce a number of new technologies including QR codes in daily editorial content, augmented reality for editorial and advertising, a web digital replica (Kompas ePaper), and now the iPad App.
WoodWing’s Remco Koster says ‘Kompas’ wanted their daily digest on the iPad to have a magazine look and feel. “With our tools, newspaper publishers can do both – create a digest in a magazine style or keep the appearance of their printed newspaper."
