Personalised and automated publishing in Hamburg

Editors learned more about Les Echos' approach to highly personalised publishing when Bertrand Salliou addressed vjoon's international user conference.

The company uses K4 to prepare personalised print publications, generate and deliver content to numerous websites.

Salliou says Les Echos Group has a number of customers in services industries, and creates printed customer and employee magazines, "also delivering information to various websites in highly automated ways".

Most is native web content "rather than just recycled print articles" with the web CMS serving as the layout engine for the purpose.

More than 140 publishing and marketing professionals attended the Hamburg event, also hearing from OB//CC - move36, LePoint, BASF, Bloomberg Businessweek and Red Bull Media House.

Jens Lönneker, managing partner of agency Rheingold Salon opened proceedings with lecture on the psychology of the online experience, and Walter Lorz introduced Move36 magazine, which takes a multichannel approach to reach a young audience and market its content.

Delegates also learned about French news magazine Le Point, which has automated much of its digital tablet and smartphone publishing workflow. Breakout sessions were led by BASF, Bloomberg Businessweek and Red Bull Media drilled down to topics such as integrating the Tell Timone planning system with K4, and professional tips on using managed Excel files in tables within business reports.

A new release of includes extended table features, XMP data management, cross-client workspaces and direct output to social media channels.

The next European user event will be in Hamburg in November next year, while tht for the Americas is scheduled for summer 2015 in New York.
