Méthode developer EidosMedia has announced the opening of a new office and subsidiary in China.

The operation in Shanghai - to serve "existing and future users" of its digital publishing platforms in China and East Asia - will be headed by Vivian Xu, former manager of joint venture partner Smart Team Global.

EidosMedia has customers in China including English-language title China Daily, where a new convergent newsroom project is based upon Méthode. It covers all aspects of its multiple-channel, multi-edition operations. Méthode is also used by the Chinese government to manage its official English-language portal english.gov.cn
Xu says the news media sector in China has enormous growth potential: "But to grasp that opportunity, news providers must combine multi-channel, multi-device capabilities with high productivity."

The move into the Asian market has required the inclusion of support for non-Latin alphabets, with traditional and simplified Chinese characters supported by the platform at all levels.

The company says use of standard technologies allows interoperability with "the best of existing protocols", including the Sogou Pinyin method for inputting Chinese characters from a standard keyboard.
EidosMedia chief executive Gabriella Franzini says the company is delighted to have Vivian Xu leading activities in China: "After a great start with China Daily, we are looking forward to bringing the benefits of advanced digital content delivery to China's many news media and financial organisations."
A variant of the EidosMedia logo has been created for the Chinese market, incorporating the characters for 'Italian', 'peak' and 'technology' - 意巅科技 - reflecting its origins and values.
