New Ferag mailroom systems are in operation at The Printers (Mysore) in Bangalore, following an order for conveyors, wrapping and strapping equipment.

A mailroom refit in 1997 to accompany the installation of a KBA Colora press at Bangalore included a TTR conveyor and ABL stacking technology. More recently, the publisher of the Prajavani daily newspaper ordered Ferag's UTR conveyor and two HPS high performance stackers with AVN automatic wrapping system and JobStrap N-RT strapping to replace existing equipment.

The Printers (Mysore) publishes Prajavani in Bangalore, as well as English-language daily the Deccan Herald, and has a reputation as a technology trendsetter in the subcontinent.

Published in the local Kannada language, Prajavani has a circulation of more than 520,000 copies, produced at seven printing locations, while of 280,000 copies of the Deccan Herald are printed daily.

In Bangalore, part editions of the two broadsheet newspapers account for 140,000 copies at night and 65,000 copies in evening production.

The UTR's ability to convey two newspaper copies in a single clamp halves the speed of up to 70,000 copies per hour through the chain, enabling the HPS stackers to receive and deliver them reliably. Production and materials general manager V Srinivas says bundle quality is good and notes the very low noise level of the new systems, installed last year without interrupting daily production.
