Ten puts news and video into new website

Australian free-to-air broadcaster Network Ten has moved further into the online news space in a bid to win back some of the attention its programming creates.

New owner CBS is reported to be backing the Ten Daily news and short-form video product, tendaily.com.au, which aims to "own some of the noise" generated by its popular programmes.

Ten Daily has been on the cards since upfronts guests were told of the standalone mobile-first website last November, prompting speculation that it would start in March to coincide with Bachelor in Paradise. Now the launch of Masterchef precedes a series of shows likely to generate viewer interaction and media comment.

Team members include Lisa Wilkinson - formerly of Nine's Today breakfast programme and now The Project - with Mel Cornford as managing editor and former Ten newsreader Sandra Sully as managing news editor.

Target audience is 18-39 year-olds, a group which broadly accords with Ten's own audience, and the site will co-exist with the present Ten Play streaming and catch-up site, which attracts a late prime-time audience.
