Switzerland's Walliser Bote - notable for its role in pioneering digital printing - has become the first daily newspaper produced entirely using WoodWing's Enterprise Aurora.

The Mengis Group daily is now printed offset again - this time by a contractor - after the publisher decided the paper was taking up too much time on a digital system anchored by HP and Müller Martini technology it had installed for the purpose.

After switching several of its magazines to the Aurora system, Walliser Bote went live on it on June 18, closely followed by weekly newspaper the Rhone Zeitung.

Mengis took the decision to switch to the browser-based Aurora last northern autumn, after deciding it offered the "most up-to-date and forward-thinking concept" for newspaper production, and began the conversion in March.

A 'story first' approach is underpinned by media-neutral content creation with articles enriched for the web - for example with a video or a picture gallery - and/or adapted for print with an automatic conversion to InDesign.

The company is also using WoodWing's Elvis DAM for asset management and archives.
