Web automation specialist Comyan is celebrating the success of Austrian customer Kleine Zeitung, which has almost doubled e-paper downloads in 30 months.

The company's automated data processing and digital asset management systems have been in use there for more than two decades, and in October 2016, a new e-paper was introduced. Since then, daily downloads have risen by 90 per cent, with the number of paying digital subscribers increasing from around 12,000 to 32,700.

Director Peter Resele says the success is further cause for celebration for them, with milestones including the launch of derStandard.at - one of the first web-CMS - between 1997-2005, and the first epaper at the NZZ in Switzerland which led to ten per cent of NZZ issues being consumed digitally as e-paper back in 2013.

Resele says the process is "easier and more cost effective than you think", and leaves publishers in possession and control of their own customers and business models, "in contrast to the platforms of the US giants".
