No longer a choice between speed or quality as cheaper inks hit

Kodak's new lower-cost Ultrastream inkjet technology has emerged in a new mid-market press for which speeds of 150 metres/minute is claimed.

The Prosper Ultra 520 press is the first manufactured by Kodak using the Ultrastream enhancements, for which high ink coverage and importantly, lower ink costs are claimed.

The technology uses smaller, perfectly-round, 'satellite-free' drops for improved image quality on a broad range of substrates.

Availability is scheduled for the end of this year.

Kodak claims the Ultra 520 is twice or three-times as fast as its rivals in highest quality mode, using the "lowest cost digital inks", to deliver an alternative to higher cost offset or toner devices.

The "either-or" option of high speed or highest resolution is ended in what the company is calling "inkjet reimagined". That flexibility may find it a place in the future of digital newspaper printing at a time when new initiatives are seriously needed.
