Salzburger Nachrichten chief executive Roman Minimayr has retired after spending the whole of his newspaper career with the publisher.

After joining the quality masthead in operations, programming and IT systems integration in 1976, he worked through the business to the top job, and retired at the end of April.

Minimayr was initially responsible for the development of software and apps, moving to project management and implementation of major projects in prepress, editorial, production, commercial and advertising systems, as well as the company’s move to a new building.

Most recently, that involved replacement of the paper’s production equipment, including Agfa prepress, a KBA newspaper pressline and Ferag mailroom, and reorganising digital integration, systems and sales organisation for the new media world, “with a wonderful team,” he says.

A speaker at WAN-Ifra conferences in Salzburg – when Nachrichten hosted WAN-Ifra’s first printing summit in 2010 – and Vienna (during the 2016 World Publishing Expo), he had been involved with several steering committees in print, distribution and IT.

He was appointed managing director of Salzburger Nachrichten in 2008, and was chief executive of Salzburg Digital.
