David Samide, who as marketing manager of Prime UV was instrumental in developing the use of UV technology for newspapers, has died aged 32. "All of us at Prime are very saddened by the loss," says Erich Midlik, a director of the family-owned company. Samide died on March 21 from a brain cancer which he had been battling for a number of years. "Not only was he instrumental at many levels within Prime, but he was also a good friend," says Midlik. Samide joined Prime UV from college in 2000, having graduated with a degree in marketing, his work with media and trade show communities earning him promotion to marketing manager shortly thereafter. Based in Carol Stream, about 40 km west of Chicago, Prime has been the major driver in the introduction of UV printing to single-width newspaper presses throughout the world.
