More Gannett mastheads have been acquired by fast-growing US publisher CherryRoad Media.

This time the deal covers seven Minnesota newspapers, including the Granite Falls Advocate-Tribune, Montevideo American News and Redwood Falls Gazette in the state’s west central region.

Four other Minnesota papers being acquired by CherryRoad are the Crookston Times, the Sleepy Eye Herald-Dispatch, the St. James Plaindealer and the Cottonwood Tri-County News.

Again terms were not disclosed in the deal, in which Dirks, Van Essen & April represented Gannett. It will be effective January 1.

CherryRoad chief executive Jeremy Gulban says the company looks forward to continuing its investment in Minnesota, building upon work over the past year in Grand Marais and International Falls.

He said CherryRoad was “excited” to be adding to the group of communities served. "We wish to express my appreciation to Gannett for working with us on this opportunity," he said.

CherryRoad Media started its buying spree in November 2020 with the the Cook County News Herald in Grand Marais, Minnesota. It then launched the Rainy Lake Gazette in International Falls in July 2021, and now operates newspapers in eight states.
