Six editorial executives of Jimmy Lai’s Apple Daily Hong Kong have pleaded guilty to a collusion charge, thought likely to result in a lesser sentence.

Associated Press reported the Tuesday plea to a charge under Hong Kong’s National Security Law.

They were publisher Cheung Kim-Hung, associate publisher Chan Pui-Man, editor-in-chief Ryan Law, executive editor-in-chief Lam Man-Chung, and editorial writers Fung Wai-Kong and Yeung Ching-Kee.

The charge alleges they conspired with Lai (pictured) to call for an imposition of sanctions or blockade, or engage in other hostile activities against Hong Kong or China.

Prosecutors alleged three companies related to Apple Daily were also involved in the conspiracy from July 1, 2020 – when the National Security Law was passed –to when the final edition of Apple Daily was published on June 24 the following year.

• Hong Kong Free Press has reported that Hong Kong’s Court of Appeal has refused to grant the secretary for justice a final chance to appeal against a court decision to allow a UK barrister represent media mogul Jimmy Lai in his national security trial scheduled to start on December 1.
