Members of Australia’s Local & Independent News Association will be heading to Canva’s new $120 million headquarters for their inaugural summit in March.

Planned is a one-and-a-half-day programme of workshops, presentations and networking.

The event is being hosted by partners Canva at their ‘Canva Spaces’ facility in Sydney’s Surry Hills (pictured).

More details and registration information soon, but meantime, mark the dates March 30(pm)-31.

Recent members include Croakey Health Media, Town Cryer Media, 8CCC Community Media, Yanchep News Online, The Westsider and This Week in St Kilda.

LINA has lodged a pre-budget 2023 submission outlining requests for funding, both for LINA-coordinated activities and directly to help start-ups get established. It also steps out the group’s rationale for policy interventions including access to DGR status for news publishers, legislated government spend ratios, updated local government acts to include digital news outlets in public notice obligations, and eligibility for digital news publishers for all government support programmes relevant to news media.

LINA is also developing a response to the ACMA's consultation on a new framework for measuring media diversity in Australia and the Treasury's draft amendments to DGR processes.
