WAN-Ifra ‘best in print’ gives Asia club members a second chance to shine

WAN-Ifra named its three top Asia Media Awards ‘best in print’ winners last night from a very limited field… newspapers which had entered its biennial International Newspaper Color Quality Club competition. Some 109 newspapers worldwide in 43 countries (from 162 entrants) were selected for the 2010-2012 INCQC competition, announced last month. Last night, members from the Asia Pacific, South Pacific and Middle East got a second opportunity to shine through participation in the ‘best in print’ category. No non-members were awarded, and guests at last night’s awards dinner were told the winners were the ‘best in standardised printing’. Other categories including awards for design, best news and sports photography, and best infographics were open to all entrants. Winners were: Under 150,00 circulation: Gold– Berita Harian (Singapore Press Holdings); silver– Guang Ming Daily (Sin Chew Media, Kuala Lumpur); bronze– Alyaum Newspaper (Dar Alyaum, Saudi Arabia). 151,000-499,000 circulation: Gold– Mint (HT Media, Noida); Silver– Today (Mediacorp Press, Singapore); Bronze– Apple Daily, Hong Kong; and and Hindustan (HT Media, Greater Noida). 500,000 plus: Gold– Apple Daily, Hong Kong; Silver– The Asahi Shimbun (Asahi Prfintech); Bronze– Times of India (Bennet, Coleman & Co). Other awards: Best in design, overall design: Gold– Post Publishing for Bangkok Post; silver– Singapore Press Holdings for My Paper; bronze– Sing Tao News Corp for Sing Tao Daily. Magazine overall design: Gold– E-Quill Media for Storm, and Sesame Seeds Creative for Imagine; silver– SPH Magazines for Home and Décor; bronze– Living Media India for India Today. Newspaper front page design: PT Kompas Media Nusantara for Kompas Daily; silver– SPH for The Straits Times; bronze– Nation Multimedia Group for The Nation. Magazine cover design: Malayala Manorama for The Week; silver– Apex Press and Publishing for Business Today; bronze– South China Morning Post Publishers for South China Morning Post. Newspaper special edition– Al Nisr Publishing for Gulf News; silver– SPH for The Straits Times – Mind your body; bronze– PT Jakarta Globe for Jakarta Globe. Magazine special issue: Malayala Manorama for The Week; silver– SCMP for South China Morning Post; bronze– SPH for ZbBz. Best in infographics, newspaper: Gold and bronze– Al Nisr Publishing for Gulf News; silver– SPH for The New Paper. Magazine infographics: Gold– SCMP for the South China Morning Post.
