Fujifilm has announced that it will launch a ‘unique’ 127 metres/minute colour inkjet at DRUPA next month.

The ‘technology showcase’ features a design Fujifilm claims is unique in that it enables duplex printing within a single tower, resulting in an extremely compact footprint.

The press uses Fujifilm’s new Vividia ink, which the maker says allows high density images to be printed at high speed, with less ink transfer. A variety of ink types – including both pigment and dye-based inks – have been developed for use with the press.

Fujifilm points to two great advantages of the inkjet web process: Flexibility of cut-off and the ability to print short-run – and variable data – work efficiently.

“By combining short-run and variable data capabilities, digital web presses are opening up new opportunities for a growing number of applications requiring these particular features,” says a spokesman.

Fujifilm says it inkjet web will be running live at DRUPA, and will be commercially available in late 2012.
