A global strategic partnership between Nela and Glunz & Jensen has seen the latter sell its punch/bender business to Nela Ternes Register Group.

The two will jointly support newspaper prepress solutions worldwide, with Nela promoting G&J’s processing equipment and – under the latest stage – Glunz & Jensen now promoting Nela’s punch/bender equipment.

The company says the deal forms a very strong strategic partnership, “providing by far the most solid and proven automated plate handling solutions to newspapers worldwide”.

The two companies have more than 3000 inline plate production systems installed in newspaper sites.

Glunz & Jensen’s headquarters for the Americas will remain in Granger, USA – securing regional sales and service of its platesetters, processing equipment, commercial automation and flexo equipment along with spare parts activities.  Nela will continue to service and support the installed Glunz & Jensen base of automation equipment from its US base in River Falls.

In addition to its activities in graphic arts, Nela – which celebrates 75 years of trading next year – also makes precision optical inspection devices for the rubber and plastics industry, and appliances for the health industry. It has more than 200 staff in Lahr, Germany, and River Falls, plus subsidiaries in Singapore and Taiwan.

Glunz & Jensen makes an innovative and low-cost platesetter, the iCtP, which uses inkjet technology in an additive process. Among newspaper users in Australia’s Barrier Daily Truth in Broken Hill, NSW.
