Some 322 Baldwin spray bars are central to an upgrade of presses at four Schibsted Trykk plants in Norway.
The preripherals company will also install filtration systems and four sites.
Schibsted – Norway’s largest print group – expects to dramatically decrease print waste costs and meet stringent water pollution control standards as a result of the upgrade.
Baldwin will install 322 EvenSpray World2 bars to upgrade existing systems on four presses and add its PureFiltration systems to three facilities.
Bent-Ståle Johansen, chief executive of the Kristiansand and Stavanger plants, says two presses already have Baldwin spray dampening. “Return on investment is expected to be very good,” he says.
The Baldwin bars will replace Goss and Baldwin dampeners on a five-tower Goss Newsliner, a 22-tower Colorliner, a nine-tower Wifag OF370 and a 34-cylinder Wifag OF470, as part of a programme to revitalise the midlife presses.
A test of the system on Colorliner in Oslo resulted in “a considerable improvement” in startup waste and water savings, and Johansen says findings showed higher than expected waste savings may be achieved. The new spray bars have Baldwin’s G5 single-drive valve system with improved performance and durability.
The closed-loop crossfolow dampening solution filtration system is going into the Kristiansand, Bergen and Stavanger facilities, replacing two older ‘simple’ systems which were not working properly and and adding the technology to a site without filtration. The system is required to meet tight environmental regulations and is expected to deliver a marked reduction in solution consumables use.
