Scripps centralises with ProImage

US publisher E.W. Scripps Co. will use ProImage’s NewsWay as its corporate workflow, tying together the company’s 14 newspaper titles.

The vendor says it has become the backbone of a ‘Scripps 3.0’ project which standardises editorial, digital asset management and ad tracking systems throughput the group, centralising planning, RIP processing, imposition, ink presetting, ink optimisation, load balancing and output management to 27 devices throughout production sites. All but two of these operate a mix of platemaking devices and different presses.

By the end of the year NewsWay servers in the Scripps data centre just outside Cincinnati will connect every site. Although centralised, each paper will be able to control their individual workflow from their own site, while having back-up and disaster recovery at a site in Hamilton, Ohio.

Some Scripps titles – including the Naples Daily News (Florida), Knoxville News Sentinel (Tennessee) and the Abilene Reporter-News (Texas) – already use NewsWay and the software is replacing systems at the other titles.
