HP has completed its second installation of the Inkjet Web Press it showed at DRUPA last year. Denver, Colorado- based Frederic Printing – which is part of the Consolidated Graphics group – will use 122 metres/minute digital press to print maps, personalised direct mail and other commercial print products. The press – seen as a prime comntender in the digital newspaper printing market – has been installed at O’Neil Data Systems in Los Angeles since January, and installations at book manufacturers in the USA and France are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2009. The press pairs HP’s ‘Scalable Printing Technology’ thermal inkjet imaging with a writing system designed for pixel printing, offering addressable 1200 x 600 dpi imaging. The installation at Frederic includes Ehret Control roll unwinding and MBO sheeting equipment. Consolidated Graphics is the largest user of HP’s high-end Indigo digital presses, used to print photo books, direct mail and commercial print jobs. Last year, it completed an installation of 36 of these presses at various plants in North America and Europe and pushing its overall HP Indigo count to more than 50 presses. HP says the Inkjet Web – available later this year – delivers image quality and durability on any low-cost, uncoated paper, as well as on a range of coated media.
