Here's something you can't do with a digital screen: Splicing six double pages together, German tabloid BZ produced an infographic 2.35 metres long.

The special print production - to celebrate the 50^th anniversary of the Berlin TV tower - has earned the Axel Springer masthead a world record.

General manager Merrit Kraus reported in the INMA newsletter that the newspaper's teams hit on the idea of "a format that has never been published in a newspaper before" to symbolise the 368 metres-high tower, the country's tallest building.

Colleagues at Axel Springer's Ahrensburg print site, near Hamburg, hit on the idea of the six-page glued format - the equivalent of three broadsheet pages high - which has since been confirmed as the world's biggest-ever newspaper illustration by Germany's Rekord-Institut.

Chocolate maker Ferrero Duplo also came to the party, booking a supersized advertisement on the reverse of the sheet, with the slogan, "die wahrscheinlich längste praline der welt" (probably the longest chocolate in the world).

Krause says the publication was "quite emotional", recalling the opening of the tower on the East German side of the Berlin wall at a time when BZ was still only published in the west.
