The six-tower Goss Magnum Compact at Staten Island Advance - the world's first installation of the groundbreaking quick-change press - is to be relocated.
The press is going to the Newark Star-Ledger in Pine Brook, New Jersey, also owned by Advance Publications and credited with a daily circulation of 114,000 in 2015. The Newhouse family-owned group also owns upmarket magazine publisher Condé Nast.
ImPressions Worldwide, which has the Americas franchise for the Chinese-built press now sold under the Wisprint brand, has the contract for the move. The project will start this year and be completed early in 2021.
Despite the attention the 'world-first' installation attracted, the new press was shoe-horned into the reel store of an existing building in Staten Island, New York, with the press and folder on different levels.
Members of IW's team recently inspected the roll room in Pine Brook to assess whether a similar feat will be practical for the 'compact' press.
