Goss Community towers from a closed site in Nova Scotia are headed to India, New Zealand and the US, confirming that the single-width workhorse from the 1960s has not lost its appeal.
US specialist Impressions Worldwide has been kept busy on installations and removals as newspapers and newspaper plants close, and some lucky ones change hands.
Halifax, Nova Scotia, from where this eight-tower press has been cleared, has seen more than its share of change, with giant Transcontinental Media selling a string of newspapers in 2017, a deal which ended in court with cross-claims of misrepresentation and non-payment.
At this Halifax site, Impressions’ team has been kept busy, with the 578mm SSC press – with a “full array” of Perretta control automation – the second of two removals for the company. A global sale – some of it at “firesale” prices – led to portions of the press shipping to India, New Zealand and the US.
Famously designed to be simple enough for casual farm workers to operate part-time, the Community was developed into a more sophisticated full-colour press, but has retained its popularity with regional users… including those with an eye for a bargain.
• Impressions Worldwide has also just bought a Community with two four-highs and Martin Splicers in Harrison, Arkansas.
