The one-around, double-width format will bring increased productivity and cost-effectiveness for straight runs for the publisher, which produces five daily newspapers including the 910,000-circulation flagship title, ‘Tianjin Today Evening News’.
The new Newsliner line will allow production of two separate publications through one folder and maximise savings on consumables. It will consist of eight units in two towers, with one folder, two Goss CT50 reelstands.
Goss will also supply a complete mailroom system.
Rated at 80,000 cph with a web width of up to 1562 mm, the press has been specified with a 2:3:3 jaw folder featuring double independent folding couples and an upper former. This will enable Tianjin Evening News Group to run two different products simultaneously, optimising press running time and ensuring full press utilization.
The long-term Goss press user currently operates four 2x2 Universal presses and three 2x1 Universal presses.
Vice president of Tianjin Evening News Group Li Shengli says he appreciates the strong working relationship with the Goss International team: "Our experience with eight Goss presses over the years has been very positive.
“In addition to the competitive features of the equipment, it is the professionalism and reliable service of the whole team that has given us confidence in this new investment."
The 4x1 press has been based on the Newsliner technology platform, while exploiting the benefits of straight-run printing for publishers requiring multi-edition products. These include dramatic plate savings and a variety of operational cost-savings.
President and general manager of Goss Japan Kazuhiko Yasuzawa says plate cylinders have been redesigned for the 4x1 format, reducing deflection and improving registration.
Cantilevered support for plate cylinders also provides greater stability and repeatability at the highest speeds to ensure the Newsliner 4x1 press remains among the most productive presses in its class. Other features include a specially modified 'triple raceway' bearing system for greater precision and easier operation, DigiRail digital inking, and an enhanced fully-automated splicing system.
The Newsliner press for Tianjin Evening News Group is scheduled for installation in July 2011.
