Inline stitching specialist Tolerans has introduced a new use for its Flowliner product... just in time for the Ifra World Publishing Expo.

The inline lateral stitching system can be used to stitch small-format products inside the press, using existing equipment and with full production speeds claimed.

The Flowliner Quarterfold has been in use at Herenco Press in Jönköping, Sweden, since March, where it is integrated into a KBA KF 80 folder with attached quarterfolder.

General manager Björn Ross says it will enable them to compete with a new format and increase the number of pages in compact sizes: "What's more, we will not have to throw away nearly as much paper," he says.

The company expects "a huge economic difference" and to be able to use better quality, whiter and heavier paper.

Tolerans says it plans a series of lateral stitching solutions, with a former version (pictured) capable of stitching both broadsheets and Berliners.

Pictured: For quarterfolded products, the stitcher is mounted with one unit on each side of the conveyor belt between the main folder and the quarter folder and (above) broadsheet products are stitched using a unit on each side of the former
